Dear Ms. Davis,
Sorry if you are not the right expert for this type of question.  Can you direct me to the one who is, please? I search I could not find one.
Something heavy hit my big toe today. It apparently entered the nail making it bleed for so long.  I feel the nail will come off very soon.  It is swollen and hurts.  Shall I soak it in cold water?

Although I am not an expert in toes, my son had issues with his feet and my suggestion would not be to soak it in cold water until a doctor looks at it.  I tend to think that if the nail is getting ready to fall off, the podiatrist may want to remove it surgically and then top it with an antibiotic solution or in another case, maybe put you on an antibiotic pill for a week or so.

You should see a doctor.
