Question
1st replacement great. (went great). then last yr in june a staph infection went into hip area. after 4 surgeries in a few months including removal of the hipreplacement, my femur was broken with a spiral fracture (not adressed until 2mo later) and then i finally had the hipreplacent put back in. I am now 2inches shorter in r leg and my leg turns outward. the original Ortho. took x-rays and was shocked at what he saw and the way the replacement put in. also that the break was not addressed immediately. It apparently happened at the time of removal of the first piece. I was told there is no corrective surgery as i had to many this past year. Do you think it could possibley be removed again and put in correctly. I am in  a lot of back pain and knee due to the angle. I have to use a walker, cane, or wheelchair.  I am only 65 and was in good health when I left Calif. last June. I spent almost one year in hospital and convelescent homes before being able to return to Calif. Thank you Mary Hosford

I am so very sorry about your pain and suffering.  First of all get with a lawyer, you may have a malpractice case.  I can't say for sure, but you will need to get a professional opinion on that.  Do that immediately.

Secondly, if your insurance covers it, go to the Anderson Clinic in Alexandria Virginia or the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC.  In Alexandria you want to look for a doctor named Dr. Charles Engh, he is the best in the nation.

If you go to the hospital for special surgery, look for Dr. Padgett he is the best one there.  I wish I could give you more advice, but what you are going through is something that is far beyond my expertise and I couldn't even begin to address it.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you the best in your search for an answer and I hope one of those two doctors can help you.
