QuestionHI, my husband is 39 and had a hip replaced a month ago. Hisrecovery was going fine when two weeks ago he began having sharp pain in his big toe and foot (on the side of his hip surgery. We are waiting to get an MRI but in the meantime the pain is terrible...is this common? Why the pain only in his big toe and none in his back or legs? Thanks for your insight.

AnswerHi Diana
I've heard of siatica pain after hip surgery, but never pain in the toe or foot. Could it be that because of the surgery, he has not gotten his normal gait back yet and that is causing pain? If someone doesn't walk correctly, pain can refer to any area of the body.
Ask his orthopedist to check his gait and leg length.
Hope this helps.
