QuestionHi there,
I had Ankle surgery (ORIF) on both sides May 29th 07. I have been out of a cast and walking boot for several weeks now. Actually I am on my last week of PT. But I still have terrible pain on the outside of my ankle, shooting pains in my heels and my joint seems to stiffen up often. Is this normal?
AnswerHi Sara,
Yes and no, there are an infinite amount of reasons progress can be stifled due to scar tissue proliferation, plate and screw placement and structures damaged. Follow up with the Ortho in a few more weeks should shed definitive light on overall outcome. In the mean time you can minimize inflammation and port operative osteoarthritis with ice and an OTC supplement called glucosamine sulfate with MSM. This has been shown in several federal studies to stop and even reverse OA in at least 70% of patients.
I ask only that you take a few seconds to rate my response. Your feedback helps me refine my expertise and helps to guide future questioners.
Thank you for your question Sara and good Luck!
