QuestionMy daughter fell and caught herself with her right hand thus fracturing her growth plate in her thumb. She has been seen by the ER, her pediatrician and an orthopedist. The result was just a brace to immobilize her thumb and ibuprofen for the pain. This happened 3 years ago and she is still suffering with pain and stiffness. What do you suggest I should do?

Please take your child to a pediatric orthopedist. My son had the exact same injury and we went to the ER and they said to go to a pediatric orthopedist. A growth plate injury is serious for children because we were told that if the injury was sustained in a specific spot, his thumb may not grow along with the rest of his had.
He was in a brace also, as your daughter, but has not had any further problem. Please see an orthopedist that specializes in children. I would also ask why your pediatrician did not refer you to a specialized pediatric orthopedist in the beginning.
Just some additional information. Anytime child needs specific care, be sure they are taken to a pediatric specialist. Children must be treated differently than adults.
