Question
hi ive just had my first hip replacement done nearly 8 months ago.. yet im unsure of sexual postions that i can do with my partner. i want to be able to take more control yet when i go to get on top i can feel a lot of tighting in the hip joint and im afaid to open my leg  so havent yet done so.. because also im only 28 and have children i also worry also that even the odd slip while playing with them could end in discolation. is this true.? ur answers would be apprecated.. many thanks

Answer
Hi Rachelle

If I were you, I would not take the position of being on top of your partner. It's one of the easiest ways to dislocate.  If you bend while you are on top you will go over your 90 degrees of flexion.  Which could lead to dislocation.  You are best off in the missionary position or side position or have your partner approach you from behind.  I have heard stories of people dislocating in the position of the woman on top.  So please discuss this with your doctor.

I had two children with my hips replaced and never had a problem with dislocation while playing with them or carrying them.  Just be mindful of all your precautions, watch the way you bend by always bending with your legs apart and never crouching into a position where you are flexing over 90 degrees.  Never cross your legs or turn your knees inward.  Also be careful while twisting.  Try and always keep your shoulders in line with your hips.

Hope this answers your questions.
