Femur/Depression/Mass

Question
Hi,
This may be silly considering my injury occurred almost five years ago.  I was in a horrible car accident after falling asleep and nearly killed myself. Coma, internal injuries, major orthopedic trauma, collapsed lungs,...  Anyhow, I was fine emotionally, for the past few years with my focus mainly on recovering.  Lately, however, I am very sensitive about the subject, have been having horrible nightmares, and think I am kind of depressed.  Is this normal so long after the accident?  Another question, I broke both my femurs (femora I think is the correct term) and my right femur has developed this HUGE mass during the healing process.  It is painful and disfiguring. Is a "growth" like this a normal thing after such an injury?  Is there a way to reduce its size and can it be accomplished without further surgery? Thanks for whatever you can offer.
Best,
Jessica

Answer
Hello Jessica

It is completely normal to experience flashbacks and depression regarding such an extensive accident.  You might be best off to look for a qualified counselor to get your feelings resolved on the issue.  Until you can rationalize what happened to you, it will be hard for you to move on, so I highly suggesting finding someone who specializes in post traumatic stress work.

As far as the mass in your femur, I am not a doctor, so I think you should ask your primary doctor for a referral to an orthopedic professional.

Best of luck to you.
