QuestionI had a total hip replacement almost 9 months ago and am still having thigh pain when walking and putting weight in the leg then releasing the weight. I also have a leg length difference. I've been told that my x-rays are okay. The Dr. said it takes a year to get back to normal, but ths pain is not normal. I have talked to many people that have had this surgery and after this long are doing fine. I do exercises and walk. Just recently have stopped using a cane when go to a store or walk.
Could their be a problem that is not being picked up? Any suggestions would be apprecated.
Thank You
AnswerHello Elaine
I am sorry it took so long to get back with you, but my computer was on the fritz and I was unable to log into the site.
If the pain is in the thigh, ask your doctor if it's in the soft tissue. As long as it's not in the joint itself, it may be that physical therapy might help. Pool walking is a great non impact exercise.
Your doctor is right that it can take a year to heal completely. If nerves are involved, healing can take up to 18 months.
Give it some more time.
