QuestionDr. I am 46 yr male. Three days ago I awoke to find both the tops of my feet and ankles swollen. This was not caused by an injury nor was it progressive, there is no pain involved. This seemed to happen overnight. Elevation does not reduce the swelling. When I walk it feels as though a liquid is moving back and forth on the top of my feet. My feet have swollen to the point were I can't put socks or shoes on. This swelling seems to be working up both legs. I have also seemed to have put on approx 4 inches onto my waist over the past week, now my uniform does not fit. Any answer to this sudden swelling. Thanks for your time and expertise.
AnswerSteve,
I don't think this is an orthopedic problem based on what you have told me. You need to check with an Internal medicine type provider and be evaluated for things like CHF (congestive heart failure) and circulation problems, sometimes even liver problems can cause swelling around your abdomen and lower extremities...so make an appt with your doctor.
Take care
