Question
Hi, I had hip replacement surgery on Feb. 18th 2008. All was goning well untel a few days ago, now i am in a lot of of pain in the goin area. When i walk it is very painfull, also fells like i hear or feel a snap in that area.should i see my Dr. about this? there was an Xray 3 weeks ago and all was fine.

Answer
Hello Wanda

You may have pulled a ligament and the snapping you hear, may be the ligament snapping over the prosthesis and that should go away as you heal.  Do you remember doing something that caused the problem, like overworking the joint?

I tend to think it's a muscle pull.  If your hip was failing, it would show up on the X-ray immediately.  Go easy on the exercise, and rest the leg by cutting back on activites.

If you still are bothered in a few weeks, by pain, see your orthopod again.
