Answer
Dear John,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Ukranian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
For your ankle & knee problems.
1. It is possible to do under one session-but probably won't be done due to time constraints.
2. There are many procedures-including modified procedures, which should be chosen based on the functional deformity & the what is the surgery trying to accomplish. You can minimize risk by having the surgeries done under local anesthesia with IV sedation---much safer& pleasant than general.
3.See above. It is possible-but there are also minimal incision techniques which my be available.
4 Rehab time can be anywhere from 4-12 weeks-depending on the procedure. Plaster may not be needed-perhaps a non weight bearing removable brace.
5. Prognosis-Good
6. Additional arthritis & possible decrease in function---depending on your lifestyle.
Start with an orthopedic group that has knee & ankle extremity specialists. Don't be afraid to get more than one consult. I would even consider a place like Mayo or Cleveland Clinic, or similar.Get as educated as possible to the risks & rewards & then decide
You will be able to decide based on the above.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
