QuestionHi Sharon
Thanks for this site. Like you, I had bilateral hip replacements six months apart when I was 20/21. I'm now 36 and have had my right hip revised (cup replaced and bone grafting) twice (after 5 and then 11 years) and left revised after 8 years and will have to have left done again in future. I'm wondering how often you can have your hips revised and if there is a stage when it's just not possible anymore. Then is the answer a wheelchair? Also, have you had children?
Thanks Jeni
AnswerHi Jeni
Your have a good question. I was told in the very beginning that there are only a certain number of times you can get replacements, but I have never been given a number.
I've had both hips done 4 times each with little or no problems. I have had two children, both by C-section and all I was told was to not put on too much weight during pregnancy.
None of the replacements was as good as the first, but I am essentially leading a normal life and although it's not my main concern, I do sometimes wonder how long they can do these revisions.
With the advances in medical science, I would life your life to the fullest and not obsess over this, when you need to have the revisions, go have them by a good doctor and just keep living.
