Question
hello,  I see you prefer answering questions re; the lower extremities, but I thought being an orthopedist you may be able to help.  There are no other orthopedists available.

I fractured my wrist just 2 months ago, and the orthopedist recommended surgery, I had surgery and a plate and screws were put in.  the surgery was just 2  mos. this week.  He told me I was doing well and didn't think I needed therapy and he said I"ll leave that up to you.  Because my fingers were stiff I opted for the therapy I've had only 2 sessions and they think I'm doing so well they 've cancelled a session...When they're showing me a few exercises, which they again say is very good, I have no real pain, very very slight. ...but later there is a little stinginess on and off, which I expected.  After all this rambling (I'm sorry)  my question is ..... after all that work with the wrist, do you think it can disturb the plate and whatever else is in there. When I see the orthopedist he takes
X rays, I see him in 2 weeks and I'm afraid maybe something is wrong.  If there is any shifting wouldn't I know it.  Wouldn't there be pain etc.  Sorry for the rambling not sure how to present this, thought you'd need all the background info.  thank you for your help.

Answer
Dear Jan,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661, Roscoe Village 60618, Ukrainian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says,

The orthopedics surgeon would not prescribe physical therapy if he thought the plate and fracture were't stable. Stiffness is expected and you should be reasonably aggressive with your therapy to minor discomfort if it produces the motion that you need. A sudden shift in the plate would cause extreme pain and probably bruising. Continue your therapy by yourself for up to 3-4 months for maximum recovery. Continue for stiffness as necessary, past that point.
Hope this helps &
Good Luck!
