QuestionHi Dr Haynes
I tried asking this question in the pediatrics section, and the Doctor there suggested I ask an Orthopaedic Surgeon, so I am hoping you can help me.
My 18 month old daughter went for her check up last week, and I told the Dr I was concerned that her left foot turned outwards when she walked. Upon futher examination, he discovered that the creases/fat folds in her thighs were asymmetrical. He then referred her for an x-ray which came back negative.
I then had someone, who has no medical training but has had a child with hip dysplasia, tell me that hip dysplasia cant be diagnosed by an x-ray in toddlers, it can only be diagnosed by ultrasound. Is this is true? Should I be asking for an ultra-sound just to make sure?
Thanks in advance for you attention on this matter
Regards
Deanna
AnswerHi Deanna, I am not a doctor. I am a physical therapist. This is something that is out of my area of expertise. Try again to get in touch with an orthopedic Doctor that works with children.
Some ortho doctors will not be able to answer if they do not specialize in this area and work with pediatrics.
Sorry I cannot help.
