QuestionRichard
I am 50 in good general health no issues.
I have always been active physicaly and enjoy jogging.
I use a treadmill because I can watch TV and also because it is too icy outside.
I have a pair of fitted running shoes that I bought at a running store.
Just in tha last couple months I have noticed my feet were extremely sore about two hours after a run. I dont run too fast or long, about 30 minutes.
I decided maybe I am too old to run? so I switched to walking on an incline.
My feet are not as sore as before but still quite tender after.
I put some gel insoles in my runners which didnt help.
Is this common for someone my age? Can you suggest anything?
Funny thing is I can walk outside for extended periods with no problems.
AnswerHi Bud,
Well I would not go as far as to say you are to old though running can be rough on our bodies over the years due to the compressive forces.
If you have not switched shoes recently and have been running with these fitted shoes before without a problem then I would back off the running for several weeks and give the feet time to recover.
try stationary biking as well mix the aerobic activity up for awhile and see how they respond when you try running again.
Where are the feet sore at ? is it the top of the foot? all over? the bottoms?
For the time being I would stop running for at least 2-3weeks but continue with other types of activities to keep your conditioning.
Your feet giving you problems can just be a way of them telling you to back off a little with the running.
You may want to in the future to cut back on the running schedule, try stationary biking one week, stairmaster another week then running another.
This is depending on the availability of equipment to you however.
Best advice right now rest the feet from running.
If the pain continues after the time off have a doctor then check the foot for other causes.
Let me know how you make out
Good Luck
Stay in shape Bud our health is our wealth.
