QuestionI had a hip pinning done a week days ago (3 pins inserted.) Am fully weight-bearing, but still using a walker. I injured my hip during a race, but did not see a doctor for 10 days. I just thought I had a groin strain. How long will it be before the bones knit? Did they start to knit before the surgery?
AnswerHi Greta,
Depending on your age and if you do not have any type of medical problem that does not allow proper bone calcification bone in this area will start to show knitting in 4-6 weeks.
This also depends on the type of fracture etc....
The bone will continue to heal after those four to six weeks however so that does not mean it will be fully healed by then.
I suspect if you injured it while racing you are a young lady so this should clear up about as fast as humanly possible and then rehab may be in order for you depending on your surgeons protocol and school of thought.
To walk on it after it happened and to think it may have been a groin strain tells me you will be just fine.
Your bones may have started the initial knitting before the surgery but by no means was any solid fusing taking place.
Good Luck Greta
Let me know if you have any further questions.
