Question
My son is yrs old and we are from India. He was admitted to the hospital 5 days back with chief c/o limping and severe pain on right lig hip.He was given almost 10 doses of antibiotics. He is back home now and the final diagnosis is Transient synovitis@Hip. The Doctors told me he will alright after few days and was also given traction when he was in the hospital. But still i am confused what could be the causes for this disease.Pls help..

Answer
Hi Sonia,

The actual causes of this is unknown to be quite honest. It has been reported that it may be due to a virus or an allergic reaction to an infection somewhere in the body.  That may be the reason your son was given the antibiotics.

This occurs more often in boys then girls.

Rest is important  it should get better in three to four days after treatment. After the pain leaves your son should be able to return to normal activities.

Your doctor may want to follow up with him again in six months and x-ray the hip to be sure everything is ok.

Good Luck I hope everything goes OK from this point on.
