QuestionMy daughter is 4 and has more than a 1/2 inch leg length difference - her right leg is shorter. I'm trying to figure out the best thing to do for her. Her doctor referrred me to a place but they advise that cutting through the bottom of the shoe of affected side is the best thing to do.
An answer posted on your website stated that someone has a difference of 3/4 inch and uses a shoe insert.
I'm wondering about this because it would be my preferred choice but I was told that anything over 1/2 inch is too much for an insert since there wouldn't be enough room for my daughter's foot in her shoe.
So my question is; what are my options for my daughter to correct her short leg? Are there special consideration when buying shoes. She starts kindergarten in September and I'm really concerned for her if her shoes stand out. Like all mothersk, I want to do what's best for her. I don't want the other issues that could develop if this is not addressed and then I don't want her to stand out and teased.
AnswerHi Michelle,
You could go to a shop that builds custom orthotics and they will construct a heel for the right shoe to even the discrepancy.
I would check with either a local orthopedic doctor or podiatrist for further information about who in your area they highly recommend that can either construct a shoe or shoes or can give you some other input on choices.
They both deal with this quite often. They can also give you some input regarding the chance of further problems down the road if any.
Being she is young her pelvis may adapt to the discrepancy and even her out in time but I would look into this further by getting a physical exam by an orthopedic doctor.
