My sister stepped in a hole and turned her ankle over.She is 58 years old and in good health.Her foot turned blue ,but we don't know the reason why her leg has turned red from her ankle up all most to her knee.It looks like a bad sunburn.She didn't go to a doctor because she doesn,t have insurance.My question is why did it turn red up her leg?

Hi Betty,

Thats a tough one to answer. If she is still able to walk on her ankle then she has not seriously damaged it.

Other then bruising in her foot that caused it to give it the"blue" color I am not sure why it turned red from the ankle up.

I would follow that closely if it does not subside or  if the pain worsens then she should see a doctor as soon as she can.
