Chronic Dislocations after THR

Question
Hi Sharon,
I've had bilateral THR (9) yrs ago. seems that stem was malpositioned on left & created stress fractures which healed with crutches & Fosamax but still pain.  Believe listing to right has created compensation issues: dislocations, knee, foot & ankle problems.

Dr.s in Boston keep telling me to do nothing but outside Boston in community hospitals telling me I need revision.  You once told me you had 13 dislocations before your revision.  I am so confused and frightened I don't know what to do or believe. Don't feel I'm getting honest, unbiased opinions. I have no 2nd opinions left on ins.
Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, lynn

I can hear the frustration in your voice.  In Boston, there is a doctor, Dr. Thomas Einhorn.  If you have not yet seen him, go see him.
He is one of the best in the field.

My dislcations were due to a small cup.  The cup was too small and because of that, I kept dislocating.  If you are having so many problems due to the unstable nature of the hip, you need to get the bottom line.  Your issues with your knees, foot and ankle problems are most likely due to your gait being off.  The dislocations are a whole other issue.

There is also a fabulous clinic in Arlington Virgina.  It's in Mount Vernon hospital called the Anderson Clinic.  Look for Dr Engh.

My surgeon here in Virginia Beach was a fellow up in Arlington and he also is phenomonal.  Start with Dr. Einhorn.  He won't lead you wrong and please mention my full name:  Sharon Stakofsky-Davis, he may remember me.  He did two of my revisions in the 1980's.
