chronic pain 13 years after hip replacement

Question
Thank you very much for reading this.  My husband had total hip replacement 13 years ago.  He is now age 56.  For 12 years, all was terrific - he played basketball, tennis, etc.  8 months ago he started having pain that feels like it is his hip.  He has had every diagnostic exam, and the orthopedic surgeon thinks his prosthesis is fine.  He went to a physiatrist who doesn't know what the pain is from; neither does the neurologist.  The pain starts 5 minutes after walking starts, and stops when not moving, including lying down.  All the anti-inflammatories have been tried and do not help.  Any guesses on this one, or a recommendation for the type of expert who might help?

Answer
Hi Sue,

The pain may be coming from his back. Possibly referred pain. I am sure one of the professionals have looked into that however.

Have you had his surgeon or an orthopedic give you a shot  at physical therapy for another opinion?
Someone knows the answer out there it just takes someone who can physically check your husband and take the time to work it out.

Try another opinion from an orthopedist if you must. After 13 years of playing basketball and tennis on a hip replacement he may be experiencing the early signs of wear in the joint.
