QuestionMy partner is 41, an going in hospital on sun for a THR,he has AVN,his left hip has more or less collapsed which has left him with his left leg being about 1 to 1 1/2 inches shorter than his good leg, first question being will his leg be the same length.
AnswerDonna
Please be sure to remind the surgeon of the length discrepancy. There will probably be an improvement in the length after the surgery, but 1 inch to one and one half inches in difference is a big difference.
I am pretty much certain that because it is a first surgery the length can be fixed to a point. If the surgeon can get the difference to 1/2 inch, then your partner can get a shoe lift of a half inch to put in his shoe. Most people have a natural discrepancy of 1/4 inch so if you can get the difference to that 1/4 inch that would be ideal.
Remember that the true difference won't be visible until after he heals which can be up to six months. Once he is healed and his gait returns to normal, you will see if there is a difference.
You might also be sure he gets enough physical therapy because he must be in bad pain and his muscles are probably atrophied and they will need to be built up again.
Best of luck to you.
