Question
My husband first hip replacement was good for 21 years, but unknowing to us he had bone loss in his pelvis. He has a "tri-phlange" placed on his pelvis which is doing great, but our problem is that his hip keeps popping out of the cup.  They've tried the constraining ring cup and lenghthened the neck  to give him more ROM.  The longest he's made it is four months.  Our dog chewed a prescription bottle which had blood thinner meds in it and the pills spilled out on the floor.  When my husband saw them and panicked.  He bent over to pick them up and on the last pill the ball popped out again.  What other options are there for this problem.  His physician is at a loss for ideas.  He's out of town for the remainder of the week at "meetings" and will continue to think about this and get back with us next week.  In the meantime my husband is sitting with his hip out.  Can you think of any other solutions for this problem?  Thanks for all of your help!

I am so sorry that your husband is going through this pain.  As someone who has had multiple dislocations, my heart goes out to him.

I would suggest getting your husband to one of the larger hospitals that deal with multiple problems.  The hospital of bone and joint disease or the hospital of special surgery in New York City are good options.  There is also a place in Arlington Virgina out of Inova Hospital where Dr. Charles Engh works.  He is the top in the field.
That place is the Anderson clinic and all the above places work with specialized cases and in your husband's case those are the places he should be.

Best of luck to you.
