QuestionI have an AVN of Talus of about 1.2 inches with no other indications, it has decreased in size slightly compared to 10 years ago, but I have not experienced any decrease in pain level. I am not sure if this size avn is considered large or not. Physical therapy was recommended, and has been attempted several times, but it makes the pain much worse. Any comments on your experience about this size avn and pain level is much appreciated.
AnswerDear Pam,
This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661, Roscoe Village 60618, Ukrainian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says,
for your AVN ( avascular necrosis) of your talus- A defect of 1.2 inches is not a small size, but location counts. If it rubs during movement and continues to deteriorate, then fixing the defect with arthroscopic surgery may be an option. If the pain is minimal, try to find activities & shoes that keep the pain to a minimum. Orthotics may or may not help.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
