QuestionSo last Thursday I fell off my bike pretty hard, I was going about 10mph I'd say riding down a hill when I lost control of my bike and I went down on my left knee, the result was two scrapes on my shin, and I banged my knee pretty hard. I got x-rays done for my knee and it shows no fractures or broken bones, so this leads me to thinking I might have torn my meniscus, because when I put pressure on my knee there is discomfort and also when I try to straighten my knee. I'm going to see an orthopedic surgeon on Thursday but before then I just wanted to get another opinion.
AnswerDear Vincent,
The orthopedic surgeon who will see you will know better than me-He/She will see you hands on.
You need to PRICE the knee ASAP
PRICE
Protect-wrap the knee and get off your feet-or walk in a way that it doesn't hurt
Rest-walk less and get off your feet
Ice-on and of for 72 hours
Compress-Mild ace wrap the area-which will also protect
Elevate-if it throbs
Max dose of Alleve or Advil for 3 days
It's normal for any sprain of the foot, ankle or knee in a such described injury to be stiff and in pain for a few weeks-especially when we walk.
Your symptoms do not necessarily mean a torn meniscus.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
