Question
Dear sir,
I need opinion on brachymetatarsia sugery recovery.I had surgery in June 2010 on both 4th toe, everything went fine (on doctors opinion)after about 6 weeks  I stop turn external  fixator and I am waiting for bone to be healed, 2 weeks ago doctor removed pins from both toe ( the one's which goes inside in 4th toes to keep bone straight),my toes are very low on both side and it is hurts me when I try to walk. Also both toes are not moving they are freeze on one position,so when I walk they touch the ground and hurts very much. Is this normal? I ask my doctor today when my toes gone start moving and his answer was ...NEVER, they gone be still this is the way how they have to be after brachymetatarsia surgery? Why doctor doesn't worry me about this. Please give some answers if my toe gone move or not.Maybe i need some kind of physiotherapy for my toes?
Thank you in advance and waiting for answers

Answer
Dear Medea,

I am sorry for making this public. I only answer public questions-so that all may benefit, & I wanted to try to help you!

That said....
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatric Doc of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

When toes are pinned for 6 weeks, they will be stiff for a long time and may not move.
There may be ways to improve the position of your toes
Physical therapy will  help your foot
A soft orthotic/orthoses in your shoes may help. You may check out our online store at AnklenFoot.com for examples of soft inserts-but it is best if a podiatrist makes them-custom fit to your feet.
You may go to another doctor who is Board Certified in Surgery of the Foot & Ankle for another opinion if your doctor does not want to take the time to listen to your concerns. That said-make sure that his nurse understands your concerns and allow time on your next appointment to talk about these issues. There are many qualified podiatrists out there who do excellent foot and ankle surgery
Hope this Helps &
Good Luck!
