Question
hi, my dad has this intense one-sided hip pain now for 8 weeks, can't find any comfort, can't sleep, and with weight bearing starts to really cramp up. he has to wait 6 month(!!) for an CT/MRI and is at the end. he's on prednison which doesn't seem to do much. any suggestion or thoughts for relief would be greatly appreciated. thank you kindly, Doris

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist says.......

Dear Doris,
Sorry for the delay.
Unfortunately sounds like arthritis.
PRICE
Protect-Wrap the hip and have him get off his feet-or walk in a way that it doesn't hurt
Rest-Walk less and have him get off his feet.
Ice-On and of for about an hour 3-4 times a day. Mild heat is OK for stiffness-but not pain.(Ice will work the best)
Compress-Apply Elastoplast (ace wrap with adhesive) to the the area-watch for skin irritation
Elevate-if it throbs try to lay down.
If he is overweight -any weight loss will help also

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
