QuestionHello doctor,
1 day ago, I twisted my ankle just down me, I heard a sound, which it turned out to be the sound of my bone.
I got immediate swelling once I got up from the ground, I couldn't step on it. and of course severe pain.
I arrived the hospital and had x-ray(the swelling at that time was higher than an egg(around 8cm *5cm#. and the pain is not tolerated at all.
the x-ray showed a fracture of the 5th metatarsal.
The doctor put a splint to me and he stated that it will help me to walk NORMALLY until I meet the orthopedic surgeon after 5 days.
Ok, I couldn't step on it at all, I still have pain although the injected me with tramadol. I use paracytamol but it does nothing. I always feel as if there was a planted nail or pin in my foot.
what I want to know, how can I manage the pain# I got mild asthma, so voltarin is not preferred). Tramadol made me very dizzy and nauseated.
Is this type of fracture has a long term complications?
Thank you very much
AnswerThis Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Laser Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......
Dear Reham
For your fifth metatarsal fracture-Do not walk on it.
See a Board Certified Podiatrist!
Try PRICE-for now
Protect-Wear your brace around the foot and limit the movements that aggravate it. Do not walk on it.
Rest-Speaks for itself-rest it.
Ice- As much as you can tolerate
Compress-Ace wrap -not too tight
Elevate-Will help if it throbs or swells.
Go to our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of wraps, sleeves or supports for your foot.
Hope This Helps
