Question
My Orthopedics surgeon want to do surgery on one heal at a time. I have been through therapy for one of the heals and months of naperson, got a little better then stared in the other heal He did X-rays again last week. Sclerosis at insertion of both Achilles tendons. I'm a little nerves he said 4 - 6 weeks of my feet, I have a job that I walk 85 per cent of the day, that is a long time off work. Right know we are trying NABUMETONE 750 mg two in the morning and heal supports in both shoes, I wanted to try another thing before I resort to surgery. I go back in 6 weeks to see if there any better. I'm doing the exercises but they seem to be getting more painful, I have knots on both my heals, in your opinion do you think surgery is the best way to go..

Thank you very much for getting back to me.

Answer
Dear Linda,
This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & West Loop Podiatrist says.......
For your heel pain & Achilles Tendonitis....
If you are overweight-now is a good time to go on a diet.
If you can continue the physical therapy for a total of 3 months(including on your own)-with the above advice-you may not need the surgery.
Apply ice after the exercises and stretch before you get out of bed & before you go to bed. Apply ice at lunch-time & before bedtime
Wear the lifts (and a shoe with a little heel-no flats) & stretch gently at work-and maybe apply ice at lunch-time.
Scarred tendon usually does not heal-but can be made more flexible with gentle stretching & life-long exercising.
Try Yoga, Tai Chi, pool exercises-or just join a local gym
PS-The lifelong exercising & stretching will help you in many ways-and recommended over surgery & meds.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
