QuestionJenny,
I have a very tender and painfull area on my right thumb, right at the lowest joint. It hurts to touch it, my mobility is limited in movement backwards and griping. I was wondering, what would be the difference between a trigger finger, ganglian cyst ? Also should I go to a regular Doctor or a specialist?
AnswerA trigger finger is when a tendon has a nodule/bump growing on it that either prevents it or makes it hard for it to slip under the sheath (a tunnel at the joint). A cyst is a growth in the nerves. I'd start with a primary care doctor and they can tell you what it is for sure, then refer you to the proper specialist.
Best wishes,
Jenny
