Fibremyalgia is a well known, but badly misunderstood problem. It is estimated that about ten million people in America suffer from this syndrome with the majority of them being women, but most cases go undiagnosed and untreated because there is still a certain amount of scorn levelled towards the syndrome; many non-sufferers believe that the joint pain that comes with fibremylagia is caused by weight, stress or poor living instead of by a syndrome. For sufferers though, the joint pain and other suffering is very real and is something that must be dealt with.
One of the key symptoms of fibremyalgia is joint pain. The pain is often intense and stabbing or a deep, throbbing muscle pain; either way, it is debilitating and can be hard to manage, especially if you have other things in your life to worry about. The joint pain is also made worse by things like lack of sleep (another symptom), early mornings, weather, fatigue, over or under-activity and stress. The problem of the syndrome not being well recognized and many of the standard remedies being largely unsuccessful drives many people to simply suffer through it.
If you are suffering from fibremyalgia and the joint pain that goes with it, finding joint pain relief requires a team effort. You will need to find a doctor, sometimes a pain clinic and other health professionals to help you manage the syndrome. The joint pain is usually dealt with through painkillers and anti-inflammatories. You may also find relief with some anti-depressants which can increase your ability to handle pain and some are even muscle relaxants which aid your body in dealing with the problem.
Most importantly though is to make sure that the professionals you work through are willing to work with you on the problem and not simply prescribe things like losing weight. Fibremyalgia is a real problem and simply losing weight will not always do the trick (although living a healthier lifestyle certainly will not do any harm)! Instead, make sure that your healthcare professionals can actually help you deal with the symptoms so that you can do the rest.
Fibremyalgia and joint pain unfortunately go hand in hand. If you are suffering from deep pain, chronic fatigue and sleep problems, chances are that you have this syndrome. It is important to get checked out and start tackling the syndrome heads on so you can continue with your life.
