The Back Pain Pandemic
9/22 18:06:03
Back pain is fast becoming a huge problem in our society with the number of sufferers increasing annually, world wide. It has taken its grasp on society as one of the most common reasons for absenteeism in the work place. Not only is this an indication of the magnitude of the problem but also an indication of the affect the condition has on the economy.

Here is an excerpt from an article which appeared on the website of the American Chiropractic Associations, entitled 'Back Pain Facts & Statistics' together with the source of those statistics.

"In fact, 31 million Americans experience low-back pain at any given time.

A few interesting facts about back pain:

* One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.

* Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor's office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections.

* Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic--meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer.

* Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on back pain--and that's just for the more easily identified costs.

* Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in our lives"

It's pandemic. The whole world has gone back ache nuts. Why is this?

If the above statistics are accurate, then we can safely say that the problem is not being resolved. And if it's not being resolved, it can only be concluded that the cause has not been defined. Would this not be an accurate assumption?

To my mind, Chiropractic Manipulation is one of the most effective forms of therapy and necessary in any back ache relief program.

A planned program of manipulation over a period of time backed up by an exercise routine can significantly handle the problem. This is great. However, soon after you stop the exercise, for what ever reason, the condition starts to consume you again. This I know from experience, years of experience. How come is it that someone who leads a relatively active life should need extra exercise to stay in one piece?

Consider how much exercise the average person gets in a day just by living life. Realize also that its not only lazy lay bouts who suffer from Back Ache. There are reasonably fit and active people among the ranks too.

If your back goes out from lifting a heavy object while in an awkward position or from sneezing while tying your shoelaces a simple manipulation should rectify the problem. Yet very often it is fingered as the start of a huge effect, months or even years of trouble.

These considerations would indicate to me that the correct why has not been found and that back ache is in fact a symptom of some other cause. The causes mentioned are arbitrary.

More basic to the muscles and everything else that manifest pain in the back are cells and tissue and ultimately energy. Energy is what makes the muscle cells expand and contract, for example, animating the body.

Damaged and diseased cells cant function correctly, so the muscles, ligaments, organs, etc, cant operate effectively and so become susceptible to malfunction and pain results.

Revitalizing the cells and tissue allows the energy to flow freely and so the muscles, ligaments etc. become effective once more. Under ideal operating conditions, it is virtually impossible to get back ache other than through accident or injury.

With the cells and tissue in good shape, treatment, when it becomes necessary, is far more effective. Treat your cells - they deserve it!

Of course the question is, "How did the cells and tissue get into bad condition in the first place?"
