Cold laser therapy is a scientifically sound approach to addressing pain throughout the body. It has been proven to help with pain caused by fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tendonitis. As opposed to lasers used in many other medical disciplines, the lasers used in chiropractics are cold, rather than hot.
At its most basic, a laser is just a focused light beam with various wavelengths. Surgical lasers generate heat and are very intense; these aren't the lasers used in chiropractic treatments. Cold laser therapy only involves the use of low intensity lasers that are safe and can help relieve tissue pain. They involve no heat and use only light. They have no side effects, no risk, and are also safe and fast to use. A patient won't need any anesthetics to undergo cold laser therapy.
So what do lasers do? They help fix damaged cells. The low intensity laser light actually inserts biophotons into cells that are damaged. This jump-starts the cells so that they start producing energy and functioning normally once again. These energized cells can then begin dividing normally as well as help the patient's immune system function at peak levels.
Cold laser therapy can also help cells begin producing hormones (if they had stopped doing so prior to treatment). In addition to fixing damaged cells, this type of therapy can help heal tissue and relieve pain. Even if there are dead cells in the area that can't be helped, stimulating the cells around them can help bring about increased cell division and growth.
