Long term medication of pain killers is something that should be supervised as other problems can occur because of their continued use. The back is under a constant strain throughout our lives and whilst it is very strong, spinal injury is one of the most common conditions around the world and even sitting incorrectly can create a long term problem.

The most common way to injure your back though is by lifting badly, it is usually recognized immediately by a sharp pain at the base of the spine. Another type of treatment uses reflexology to massage the feet. It is a very old natural therapy which helps to relieve many chronic ailments. Another benefit to reflexology is how it can improve the circulation which helps to ease tense muscles.

Acupuncture is used frequently by people suffering spinal agony by giving them back pain relief just as it has for thousands of years, although, only recently in the West. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the theory that all people have this energy which flows through them called 'chi' or 'qi'. Chi can become blocked but can be released by using thin needles inserted into various points on the body. Like reflexology, acupuncture seems to be used by people who suffer with chronic conditions like back pain which requires relief.

A slower and gentler type of Yoga called Tai Chi, once again from China, is another method of back pain control. Tai Chi is however very gentle and easily performed by young and older people. It focuses on breathing exercises with additional stretching movements.
