The Causes And Treatments For Lower Back Pain
9/26 15:25:52

There are no definite causes for lower back pain. In fact, back-pain is a symptom of an injury or disease, not a disease or injury itself. It maybe caused due to several collective reasons. Most of the time, it is impossible to find out the exact causes of the pain. Most of the treatments for back-pain concentrate upon the relieving of the symptoms. They don’t treat the cause of back-pain.

In order to understand the possible causes of back pain, you will first have to understand the basic structure of the human body. A human is able to stand up on two legs, due to the support provided by the spine. All the muscles, ligaments and cartilages which support a human body are based around the spine. The pressure of the torso is concentrated at the lower part of the spine. Sometimes the muscles or ligaments supporting the lower back may get stretched due to an increase in pressure. This is the most common cause of back-pain. Such an increase in pressure maybe caused when you are lifting a heavy weight, sleeping in a wrong position or standing with poor posture. Other causes of back-pain include deformities in the spinal discs, natural degeneration of the spinal discs (occurs due to aging), tumors or spinal cord infections.

Most of the time, the pain will disappear within a few weeks, but sometimes it will linear on for several months. If this occurs, the most advisable thing to do is to counsel a physician or other specialist. There are several techniques that can be used to eliminate or reduce back-pain. One of the most common types of cures is the ointment of a cream or oil containing menthol. Menthol acts as a painkiller and produces a cool-stinging sensation. It is effective at reducing mild pains, but the effect is only temporarily. An alternative to menthol cream would be Capsaicin cream. Capsaicin naturally occurs in chilies. Capsaicin will give a slightly powerful burning sensation.

As aforementioned, back-pain maybe caused due to poor posture in sleeping. Some doctors recommend their patients to sleep upwards (with your back pressed against the bed) with a pillow underneath the knees. The bed should not be too soft as such a bed will offer little resistance to the back, causing you to sink into a poor posture. The Alexander technique is also known to be effective at curing back-pain. This technique is used to teach people about how to maintain a good posture while standing, walking and lifting objects.

Yoga is known to provide back pain relief in some people. Doing yoga will increase the flexibility of the body. It will also strengthen the muscles of the lower back. Acupuncture is also reputed for relieving back-pain. It doesn’t cure the cause of back-pain, but it is believed to promote the synthesis of natural painkillers in the body.
