Chronic back pain can be caused by a number of factors. Unfortunately, many adults will suffer through the pain, rather than to become impaired by taking pain medication. Luckily, a visit with the chiropractor can get many pain suffers on the road to recovery.

For millions of people, living with back pain has become a normal way of life. With so many over-the-counter pain medications and relievers, many of these people go years without ever getting a diagnosis on what is causing their pain. A chiropractor is a medical doctor that is specially trained in treating disorders of the musculoskelatal system. They have several different tools and techniques to both diagnose and treat back pain.

Most adults will suffer some degree of back pain at one time or another. Luckily, the pain never persists and is typically resolved on its own. Even still, there are millions of adults who experience chronic back pain, typically caused by injury. Injuries can vary, and while some may only experience strained and painful back muscles as a result of injury, others may suffer a bulging disc, which is known to cause the most painful and chronic back pain.

No matter the cause or effects of the pain, a chiropractor is specially trained in injuries to the musculoskelatal system, which does include the back muscles and spine. Treatment from a chiropractor typically begins with a consultation exam and x-ray. This initial consultation and x-ray will help the doctor to diagnose the cause of their patient's pain. The doctor will also talk to their patient to get some basic details such as injuries that may have caused the pain, or any hereditary degenerative diseases that could also be causing the pain. Once the doctor has a diagnosis, they can create a treatment plan that will both ease the pain and in some cases, cure the cause of the pain.

Although a chiropractor is a medical doctor, their treatment plan is typically very different than other doctors. For instance, a general practice doctor is more likely to prescribe a pain reliever to a patient with back pain. On the other hand, chiropractors are known for more alternative treatments such as massage therapy. In fact, a chiropractor's thorough understanding of the musculoskelatal system qualifies them to treat pain in other areas besides the back. Pain the the legs, knees, or shoulders is often times caused by the need for a spinal adjustment. Furthermore, a chiropractor can provide alternative treatments to cure pain caused by fibromyalgia or arthritis.

Back pain that persists for more than 12 weeks is considered chronic. Luckily, a chronic pain does not mean you should have to live in constant discomfort. A chiropractor is specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain.
