Correct posture is quite often viewed as just a matter of looking good or even confidence.?When a person has that characteristic of proper posture, they seem to walk taller, sit straighter, and promote a feeling of being in charge. But for those that have bad posture it is not a matter of looking good, it is also something that can cause long term pain in the back, neck, and shoulders.

Problems such as sciatica, or chronic tension in your back and shoulder muscles can be a direct result of years of poor posture.?The bodies postural muscles and skeletal system are designed to work together in order to support one another.?If things are out of alignment for too long, this support system starts to fail.

The body's skeletal system, and the spine in particular work with the postural muscles to provide overall support.?Repetitive bad habits such as slumping in your chair can cause temporary back pain.?If the postural muscles are not kept strong, over time they atrophy and your posture worsens as your back pain increases.?

Sitting in a chair all day is not what the human body was meant to do.?The body, and in particular, the spine and postural muscles need movement throughout the day in order to remain strong and fluid.?Getting up and moving around during the day is essential to helping keep those muscles strong.?Take a brisk walk a few times a day to help fend off bad posture.

The habits we learned as children to form our base posture were easily learned.?We were taught to keep our heads up, our shoulders back, and our back straight.?Unfortunately, these habits are just as easily unlearned over the years.?To improve your posture as an adult one must continually remind themselves through the day of these same maxims we learned as kids.

There are some simple tips to make sure we are paying attention to having correct posture throughout our day.?If you spend most of your day seated at the desk, then make sure that you are sitting up properly and not slouching.?Sitting too far forward in your chair and not giving your back enough support is also bad.?

Whenever you find yourself upright, either standing or walking pay attention to your alignment.?Think about drawing a line through the center of your profile, from the ear to the ankle.?And remember to keep your shoulders back and head up.

Following some of these simple tips and paying attention to how you carry yourself throughout the day can go a long way to stemming back pain that may be caused by long term poor posture.
