Lateral Epicondylitis

What is Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, is a painful condition of the elbow, which involves the tendons that join the forearm muscles to the outside of the elbow.

Common Causes

Overuse and repetitive use can cause tennis elbow. Some tennis players are diagnosed with this problem, but it is more often seen in workers that do repetitive lifting or movements.

Diagnosis and Examination

History and physical exam by a qualified musculoskeletal expert is the first step. X-ray or MRI scanning may be required.

Treatment

There are both surgical and non-surgical treatment options available. Non- Surgical options recommended could include, rest, taking anti-inflammatory medications, or wearing a brace. If non-operative treatment fails, open or arthroscopic surgery could be recommended.
