Suffering Arthritis Of The Foot? - Essential Tips On Prevention

Arthritis is the inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, an increase in fluid in the joint, and frequently changes in structure and function. It is often e extremely painful and crippling, particularly when it manifests itself in the feet.. The small joints in the feet can be especially vulnerable due to the daily stress and loads they must carry

Here are 10 tips to prevent arthritis from occurring or to at least slow its progression.

1. Be sure to always purchase proper fitting footwear.

Note that shoes should always be both comfortable and supportive, with no binding, pinching, or rubbing. These could irritate your joints. In fact a golden rule of promoting excellent foot health and preventing conditions such as arthritis, is choosing appropriate footwear.

So many of todays foot problems are cased by ill fitting shoes it is essential that you choose wisely when purchasing footwear.

2. If you find your joints are stiff or inflamed, then do take necessary rest and stay off your feet until they feel significantly better.

Regular periods of rest are essential to your feet's well being.

3. Lose some weight if you are carrying extra poundage.

Any extra weight adds both stress to weight-bearing joints and can also initiate the development of future foot problems. Think of this as being a longer term project i.e. that you don't have to lose all the weight at once. Any excess weight you can lose will have a corresponding benefit for your long suffering feet!

4. Remember to take exercise on a regular basis.

Focus on staying active and flexible. Walking, swimming and yoga are excellent activities and will assist in promoting superb foot health.

5. Focus on developing and maintaining a good posture.

This will ensure your body weight is evenly distributed over each foot.

6. Keep feet warm and dry.

Damp feet can attract fungal type conditions.Be sure to take extra care if you are a keen sports participant as communal changing rooms are notorious for the spread of foot conditions.

7. Maintain a healthy diet - this will assist enormously in promoting long term foot health and a sense of general well being

8. Avoid a stressful lifestyle - stress can sometimes exacerbate an existing arthritic condition.

9. Avoid smoking, and excesses of caffeine and alcohol, protein and fat.

10. Above all, maintain regular communication with your doctor and notify of any changes in the condition of your feet.

As can be seen, there is much that can be done to stop foot pain arthritis occurring, or at least slow its progress. A good diet, appropriate footwear and regular foot maintenance are key factors to consider
