Every expecting parent wishes to have their child perfectly normal at birth. One of the breakthroughs in modern medicine is the capability of detecting conditions even before birth. As most cases are treatable, there are certain conditions in which the safest way to go through it is by waiting for the infant to be born before getting treated. Such is the case for infant orthopedic conditions. Here are some of the common pediatric orthopedic cases.

牋 1. Club Foot ?This is an orthopedic condition in which the child抯 foot is deformed at birth. It is a common condition which occurs in one in every thousand birth. A child with club foot has its feet inverted or twisted. Most of the time both the child抯 feet are affected, but there are also cases that only a foot is with the condition. The most effective treatment of club foot is Pontesi Casting. In this method, the tendons and muscles are stretched and casted gradually until it reaches the correct position. 牋 2. Scoliosis ?This is a common bone condition that involves the development of a curve in the spine. This deformation could worsen with time causing chronic pain, a deformed physique, and even issues with breathing. The cause of this condition is barely known in science. Although, there are quite a number of treatments for it, including physical therapy. On worse cases, surgery must be done by a skilled pediatric orthopedic surgeon to treat this critical condition.

牋 3. DDH ?This is an acronym for development dysplasia of the hip. It means that the bones on the hip joint of the child are not developing normally. This may not be physically visible at birth. The detection of this condition is through regular examinations of hip joint movements. There are a lot of available treatments for this condition; however, it is important that the treatment procedure is appropriate for the age of the child. Treatments include several kinds of surgery. Surgery is proven to rectify the condition and normalize the development of the hip bones and joints.

牋 4. Growth Plate Injury ?This is the abnormal development of the growth plate, or epiphyseal plate due to trauma, infections, or tumors. The injury to this part of the body will cause the child to have abnormal bone growth or even absence of it. Mild cases of growth plate injuries are treated with complete rest and being in a stationary position for a period of time. But for some cases in which the deformity caused by the abnormal growth plate affects the child significantly, then surgery is required to rectify or adjust the behavior of the growth plate.
